For those that are interested I thought I would post some piccies of the program I coded that makes this web site possible ... it's all coded in Microsoft Visual Basic 6

The main program...

It handles everything for the league from the creation of the league fixtures ...

.. to the entering of league results

It now also handles all the tournaments ...

... and finally it creates all the printouts and web pages you are all so familiar with ...

I know for a fact that MKSC Five Star won the second division that season (because I was thier captain!) & Knights were second. Steve Woolford can verify it if you want. However as I was quite new to MKSC then I have no idea who won the First & Premier.

Martin,

All nominated players are currently recorded in the statistics.
However, you have not been a nominated player so your statistics would be recorded regardless of any ruling.
You did play against a nominated player when playing the BCC Hawks, and yes you did lose, so that is recorded in your statistics.
I can only think that Barry had recorded the result inaccurately, and has since fixed it.

Apparantly in the past there was a ruling that prevented nominated players from being named and stats recorded against them, but there is no mention of this in the current constitution, so it obviously got changed at some point.
If in the future awards are made for LEAGUE ranking points/stats etc then perhaps this needs looking at.
However I can't see why a player who is playing against a nominated player should be excluded from the stats, as they have probably picked the weekest opposition, and expect to win (hard luck on that one!)

Adrian

Martin Moors from Milton Keynes wrote on November 24. 2003, 15:42:

Hi Adrian,

Quick question, up until last week my stats for playing a substituted game were not included. Which I was quite happy about as I lost it.

Now it appears as though the stats have been updated to include games where you play a nominated player when they only have three players. (At least the number of games I have lost has increased by 1 to 3, so I can only assume this is the reason).

Can you clarify what the rule is on this issue?

Cheers

Ian,

I like your night time pictures, very nice indeed!
Nothing quiet like an increased exposure time to grab some beautiful colours from lights.

On the other subject ... i think reffing, from personal experience, is much harder than playing the game.
If you make a mistake playing, you get penalised points.
If you make a mistake reffing ... well, you can't! It's not allowed! But of course it does, and always will happen.
Refs are rarely appreciated except by other refs!

I can see both sides here. Knowing the score can affect what shots you play so changing the score later on would have been unfair on your opponent. On the other hand, you scored the points so you deserved to have them. I agree with Adrian Trott that the only fair way would have been a re-rack. Would it? The winner would have been the player who could put the incident out of their mind most quickly, thus you would have again changed the situation. Is that why the rules imply that a second and even third official should act as recorder/marker?

Cheers for the support,
As for the frame being re-played, I am really not too concerned about that, what's done is done, none of us were certain of the rule so agreed on what happened, even if I was out voted and didn't like it at all!
I just wanted to show some good sportsmanship and let everybody know how to handle the situation correctly in the future to save any more possible travesties of justice occuring ;-)

Ade, as another qualified ref, I concur with you on the rule. More importantly, in the interest of fair play, can you demand that the frame is replayed as the rule seems to have been infringed? Where do the league stand on this issue?

To 'The BCC Club':

The league stuff takes 2 1/2 minutes to generate and about 10 minutes to FTP up to the web site each week (broadband).
The program that creates the web pages took months to program .... this is its first year.
Barry puts all the data in to the program, I guess that would take about an hour each week.

As for the tournaments ... Tony spends hours doing them, and it took me a couple of hours to put the first rounds on the web site, as its all done manually presently.

Last season, it took me about an hour each week to put the league results on, and that was just tables, player of the match and results ;-)
Last season 15 pages got updated weekly. This season its closer to 300 pages each week ;-)

Hope that answers your questions.

Hi Martin,

It took ages to put together .. all my own work with Barry doing some testing, and a few ideas from other people. The program that does it all is running the whole league this season, so its rather crucial! It created the fixtures, and will controls all results, penalties, stats and rankings. It generates all Barry's reports and all the web pages automatically. The hope is to eventually make ALL the committee members lifes much easier than they have been in the past, automating as much as possible. Tournaments are the next step, but they may not be completed for this season. Still, they run just great now, it just takes Tony a long while!

Answers to your questions:
1). A close match is defined as the finishing frame score being less than 14 points difference. My original idea for this was that it indicated black ball games, but this is not necessarily true. The idea is that it shows which players lose there bottle, or keep it! (Maybe you need to work on that Martin!!!)
2). The rankings are based purely on league games. There will be seperate tournament rankings, and the plan is that they will be combined at some stage to make one overall ranking. If you look at the articles 'Thoughts about the ranking system' and 'Tournament Ranking System & Team Knockout notes' dated 4th September on the news page you should get the full picture.

See you all Wednesday.

Hi Adrian,

Great individual rankings & stats. It must have taken a while to put together, I wonder who worked all that out?

Couple of questions,

1) How do the league define what a close match is?, as I notice that the 6 that I lost last season were all 'close' ones?
2) Are these rankings based purely on league games? Is there a plan to include tournament rankings as well, I seem to rememeber Tony saying that he would do something. I guess this can't be mixed up with League rankings otherwise it becomes to confusing.

Cheers & see you at the captains meeting.

I should imagine that seeing as last Sunday was the deadline for a load of tournament rounds Tony will be busy over the Xmas hols drawing the next round and updating the previous rounds results.
As soon as he sends them to me you can be sure they will be uploaded to the web site.

Then again I could be completely wrong .... ! ;-)

Thanks for the comments. Any other opinions out there?

I have now made it so the menus stay visible until you click off them, so you can't slip off them any more.
I lost the contact page by accident, I have now added it back in, well spotted!

The problem with the old design was that I couldn't fit any more options in on a 640x480 screen, even on 800x600 it was tight. Also I have wanted to get rid of the framed design (3 pages in one) for a long while now because frames cause a few problems and are old style nowadays.
No reason why I can't change it again though .. its all up to the people who use the site, so please leave any comments, preferences or ideas for improvement!

I Prefer the old way of clicking on the buttons on the side
because 1. It's quicker than scrolling down to find what you want
2. The cursor keeps slipping off the pull down menu
and I have to start again.
3. I can't find things easily.
Also where has the contacts page gone for all the comittee members

HELP! The MKSC ALLSORTS (Division 1) desperately need another
team player.
One of our team can't now commit to playing on Mondays,
another has to have an operation and won't be fit for 6-8
weeks in October/November - and maybe longer -and if anyone
goes on holiday - like me in November - that will leave us
with just two players!! aaargh!!

So if anyone reading this knows of someone looking to join a
team - or is thinking of changing teams for some reason -
I'd be interested in talking to them.

We're a happy, friendly team - and our two remaining regulars are
fairly good players.... (then there's me - I'm the weakest,
but I have my moments....) so if we could find someone of fair standard, who can
pot a few balls we stand a fair chance of staying in Div.1 this year.
If not, its curtains for us..... which would be a shame.

So if you, or someone you know, might consider joining us
please get in touch.

My home phone number is (01908) 695269 or mobile: 07752-307988 -
contact me at any time.

Cheers!

Hi Brian,
Lovely to hear from you and glad you like the site.
The league results have been up for a while now, as have player of the team awards, so you must mean tournaments!
Some of the finals of the tournaments have only just been played, and some are still to be played.
Results go up as I get them in!
As I am sure you understand as a previous committee member, getting the time to do it all isn't easy!
But eventually they will all be up, hopefully for many years to come .. in a few years the site will be a really interesting refrence point!
I have some results to put up now ... so look back in a couple of hours from now!

Thanks to Adrian Parish for his efforts in producing this first class WEB site, and the league committee for thier input.
